Physics Colloquium: Supernova Cosmology with the Dark Energy Survey
Start Date: 4/10/2014Start Time: 3:30 PM
End Date: 4/10/2014End Time: 4:30 PM
Event Description
Masao Sako, PhD, associate professor, University of Pennsylvania

Distance measurements using explosions of white dwarfs have played a central role in modern cosmology, leading to the remarkable discovery that the universe is presently going through an accelerated expansion. Despite more than a decade of extensive observational and theoretical efforts, the physical origin of this acceleration remains a complete mystery. Masao Sako, PhD, will discuss the observational progress made over the past several years and advances that will be made by the Dark Energy Survey (DES).
