Event Description Every painter begins with a blank canvas, but not this one. The featured artist of the upcoming Rincliffe Gallery exhibition — “Simulated Fijnschilderij: Where Old Masters and Technology Meet” — began with a digital print and some very old recipes. Rosalind Sutkowski’s work brings a technological twist to a genre favored by 17th century Dutch painters known as fijnschilderij, or “fine art.” Whereas the Dutch masters created paintings that had the illusion of reality, Sutkowski’s creations start with reality (a photograph) and create the illusion of a painting. Her series of 22 paintings of repeating cottages and dual stemware will be displayed in the Rincliffe Gallery on the third floor of Main Building at 3141 Chestnut St. from Jan. 10 through March 14. |
