MSNBC President Phil Griffin
Start Date: 2/25/2014Start Time: 6:30 PM
End Date: 2/25/2014End Time: 8:30 PM

Event Description
MSNBC President Phil Griffin has been enormously successful in creating an identity for his cable news network. He has served as executive producer for “Hardball with Chris Matthews” and “The Big Show with Keith Olbermann,” and orchestrated the launch of some of TV news’ biggest names, such as Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O'Donnell and “Morning” Joe Scarborough. Last year, he predicted that MSNBC’s “sensibility over ideology” strategy would push his network’s ratings beyond those of rivals CNN and Fox News by 2014, only to see ratings pulled down by lagging viewership and on-air controversies that resulted in the departures of Alec Baldwin and journalist Martin Bashir. Despite setbacks, Griffin refuses to give in to critics and is pushing back with a public campaign to promote the future of MSNBC and cable TV news.

The Kal and Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies and the Pennoni Honors College will host Griffin for a free and open-to-the-public discussion. This event is part of the 2014 Great Works Symposium.
